New York Distracted Driver Laws
In New York, it is illegal to use handheld electronic devices such as tablets and cellphones while operating a motor vehicle. The law does not bar drivers from using hands-free cellphones or GPS devices that are attached to the vehicle.
The following are examples of prohibited activities:
- Talking on a handheld cellphone
- Texting while driving
- Viewing, taking or transmitting photographs while driving
- Surfing the Internet while driving
- Playing games while driving
New York taxi drivers cannot make calls using any type of cellphone while the vehicle is in motion, including a hands-free device.
Our attorneys have recovered tens of millions of dollars for our injured clients, all on a contingency fee basis. There are no fees unless we obtain compensation for you.
